1. What does myChinese360 mean?

Learning a foreign language can be a challenge for many of us, and traditional language learning methods may not meet the needs of today's students.

This is why TCG Global developed myChinese360, a robust and well rounded (i.e. 360 degree) approach to learning that meets students at their interest level. With myChinese360, students have access to powerful learning tools 24 hours a day, and can engage with their fellow students and teachers no matter where they live.

2. Why should US Students Study Mandarin Chinese?

China is a sleeping giant, now boasting the fastest growing economy in the world. Learning Chinese gives US students the opportunity to take advantage of this change, and remain competitive in the global market. The US can not afford to be complacent in our ability to compete, and we need our workforce to have the language skills to cope with a growing interaction with Chinese-speaking countries.

3. What makes myChinese360 a more effective method for learning Mandarin Chinese?

Students have different learning styles, and educators that recognize and accommodate this fact provide a more satisfying and effective educational experience.

myChinese360 is not just a single approach program, but a comprehensive system designed and based on well accepted best-practices in language learning, using the latest technology. In a language as challenging as Mandarin Chinese, it is vital we hold a student's attention in ways that a traditional classroom environment alone simply cannot.

4. What is the big advantage of myChinese360's Accredited Instructors over Uncertified Teachers?

myChinese360 employs highly qualified teachers subject to the same standards as U.S. based teachers with Master's degrees in Teaching Chinese as a Second Language. Our teachers are recruited from prestigious Chinese educational institutions including Peking University, and Beijing Language and Culture University, and they receive ongoing training and professional development in the same extensive online pre-service training program used by teachers in the U.S.

Our teachers are accredited by the Texas Region 4 Education Service Center's rigorous certification program. They train for 2 semesters in a "virtual internship" administered by Region4, including observation and support by an experienced mentor teacher. This is approved through local State Agencies, and our teachers undergo 30 hours of classroom observation at an American expatriate school in China.

5. Are there any education organizations that endorse or support the myChinese360 program?

Yes, in fact myChinese360 has undergone extensive evaluation and has been accredited by the Texas Department of Education, as well as Texas Region 4 Education Service Center. Certification by these organizations is accepted in 23 other states. In addition to Texas, Pennsylvania and California have also certified the program.

The National Alliance of Black School Educators (NABSE) is also a partner with myChinese360 as the driving force behind its NABSE Mandarin Initiative, designed to increase minority participation in Chinese. This partnership understands it is vital that minority students have the same opportunity to participate in the global community, by studying a world language such as Chinese.

IMPLEMENTATION QUESTIONS

6. How easy is the program to implement in a school?

It is actually quite easy to implement myChinese360. Each school and student receives a Getting Started kit which explains what components are in the program and how to use them. A school really has very little to do but assist its students by showing them which computers they will be using and getting them access to a high-speed line. Once logged onto the system, a student is ready to go. All instruction and resources is online and available 24/7.

7. How is the program actually implemented during the school day?

Online learning is obviously different than a traditional 45 minute classroom block which is taught by a teacher. The ability to go online 24/7 provides a unique opportunity for students to fulfill their foreign language requirement at anytime. Generally, students would "take" their myChinese360 class at the same time they would normally be scheduled to take a traditional foreign language class, such as Spanish. Because the myChinese360 program is extremely versatile, it can be implemented anywhere the school has computers, such as the library, computer labs, or language lab.

Of course, the learning is not confined to just the regular school day, because the program is web-based and can be accessed 24 hours per day, seven days per week from any location, such as home, schools, libraries, community centers, churches, etc.

8. How much time do students have to spend in the program?

The myChinese360 program is generally utilized like a regular class for five days per week. Most students choose to continue their learning after school hours by accessing at-home or after-school study hall.

9. Can the program be used after-school?

We encourage extending the school day. The program is web-based and can be accessed 24 hours per day, seven days per week, from any location, such as home, schools, libraries, community centers, churches, etc. It is not unusual to find students using the program at all times of day or night.

10. What are the technical requirements of myChinese360?

The myChinese360 program is accessed through your browser, and requries a headphones with a microphone, and high-speed internet access.
